The summit held yesterday between US President Donald Trump and supreme leader of North Korea Kim Jong-un has been heralded as a ‘victory for diplomacy’ and as ‘the meeting of the century’.
This much anticipated meeting in Singapore saw the two leaders develop, in the words of President Trump, a ‘very special bond’ as Kim ‘reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula’ and the US promised to ‘provide security guarantees’ to North Korea, as well as to bring an end to US-South Korea military drills.
The full text of the signed agreement created at this summit can be read here.
Rodong Sinmun, an official North Korean state newspaper, today claimed this summit was ‘the meeting of the century’ on its front page.
On top of this, Sweden’s Foreign Minister has branded the meeting a ‘victory for diplomacy’, saying that ‘now the test is going to be the implementation of this agreement and to see what it contains in all its details’.
