US President Donald Trump has cancelled a summit with supreme leader of North Korea Kim Jong-un which was due to be held on 12 June.
In a letter sent to Kim, the State Department said that ‘tremendous anger and open hostility’ displayed in a recent North Korea statement meant the summit could not take place ‘at this time’.
The cancelling of the summit, the president wrote, was positive for both parties, but was ‘to the detriment of the world’.
He further added the following:
‘You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be used.’
More to follow.
