President Donald Trump has threatened to end US aid to Palestine unless they show a willingness to bring stability to itself and Israel, saying ‘that [aid] money is on the table [but] is not going to them unless they sit down and negotiate peace.’
He said that, whilst Israel ‘does want to make peace’ and has put forward ‘endless’ peace proposals, Palestine is ‘going to have to make peace too, or we’re going to have nothing to do with it any longer.’
Talking at the World Economic Forum in a meeting with Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Trump claimed that Palestine ‘disrespected’ the US by not allowing Vice President Mike Pence to visit the country as part of an official tour the Middle East.
Palestine refused VP Pence’s visit proposal due to the controversial decision made by the President to move the US embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
President Trump said that this, as well as the country’s alleged unwillingness to negotiate for peace, could lead to the ‘hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of aid given from the US to Palestine being stopped.
