Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has said the accusations made by the FBI that Russians interfered in the US 2016 election are nothing but mere ‘blather’.
Mr. Lavrov also commented that the charges, covering 13 Russians and three Russian companies, lack any ‘facts’.
One company involved in this accusation, the St. Petersburg based Internet Research Agency, is said to have ‘had a strategic goal to sow discord in the US political system, including the 2016 US presidential election.’
The Russian presidential envoy also stated that there is no evidence to back up these claims, according to the RIA news agency.
It has been clarified by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein that no American was ‘a knowing participant in this [alleged] illegal activity’ and that the interference did not alter the outcome of the election.
Russia’s name is, however, further tarred by these accusations, despite claims from Moscow that they are simply ‘absurd’.
