A Russian official has accused Britain of utilising Nazi propaganda techniques over alleged Russian involvement in the nerve agent attack of a former double agent in Salisbury last month, an accusation which the Kremlin has fervently denied.
Vasily Nebenzia, Russia’s ambassador to the UN, has claimed that British officials are ‘all using the method of Dr. [Joseph] Goebbels [Nazi Germany’s Minister of Propaganda during the Second World War]: lies that are repeated a thousand times become the truth.’
Mr. Nebenzia also claimed ‘it is more than likely that this very questionable case is a fabrication. It’s some sort of theater of the absurd. Couldn’t you come up with a better fake story?’
He went on to warn Britain against accusing Russia of being behind last month’s attack, saying ‘you’re playing with fire and you’ll be sorry.’
This comment is not only inflammatory but is also highly hypocritical, since Russian officials were (rightly) horrified when Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson claimed Putin’s Russia bore resemblance to Nazi Germany.
