It has been revealed that health impact experiments have been carried out on humans and monkeys by the European Research Association for the Environment and Health in the Transport Sector, a group funded by Volkswagon, Daimler and BMW.
Despite being dissolved by the car-makers last year, the group received criticism from its former funders over the groups research, which involved exhaust inhalation by both humans and animals.
The German Government said they were ‘abominable’, claiming the experiments were not justified.
Stephan Weil, a Social Democrat politician, called them ‘absurd and abhorrent’. ‘Lobbying can be no excuse whatsoever for such testing,’ he said.
