Lords Back ‘Meaningful Vote’ on Final Brexit Deal

The House of Lords has voted in favour of an amendment to Prime Minister Theresa May’s EU Withdrawal Bill which will give Parliament the final say on any Brexit deal with the EU, effectively preventing a ‘no deal’ exit.

The Lords voted 335 to 244 in favour of this amendment which is a large defeat for the government.

Before becoming law, this amendment will have to be approved by the House of Commons where Prime Minister May holds a small majority.
