56,000 Sign Petition for Referendum on Abolition of House of Lords

Tens-of-thousands of people have signed a petition calling for there to be a referendum on the abolition of the House of Lords.

The second chamber of the Houses of Parliament has received a backlash after voting to keep the UK’s membership of the EU’s Customs Union on the table on Thursday.

According to the petition document:

‘The House of Lords is a place of patronage where unelected and unaccountable individuals hold a disproportionate amount of influence and power which can be used to frustrate the elected representatives of the people.’

56,000 people have so far signed this petition and many more are likely to do so.
